Living in Boise

Boise, Idaho, is known as the "City of Trees." The city, located on the Boise River, is the capital of Idaho and the most populous city in the state. Downtown Boise offers residents and visitors a variety of shopping and dining choices and is the city's cultural center, home to many small businesses. The city center's pedestrian zone boasts delightful sidewalk cafes and dining, and is home to many restaurants, bars, and boutiques. This area of Boise also supports an exciting nightlife.

Rich in history, Boise is home to a variety of museums, including: the Boise Art Museum, Idaho Historical Museum, Idaho Black History Museum, Boise WaterShed and the Discovery Center of Idaho. Boise has a unique cultural influence, and downtown Boise features a vibrant section known as the "Basque Block," where every five years the city hosts the Basque Festival. The Block also houses the Basque Museum and Cultural Center.

For sports fans, Boise offers professional and college athletics including baseball, ice hockey, football and basketball. And outdoor lovers can enjoy hiking, biking, swimming, boating and fishing. Close to downtown, Boise has a vast urban trail system called the Boise River Greenbelt, which runs along the river and is a common destination for fishing, swimming and rafting. Winter time in Boise, visitors and residents alike can visit the Bogus Basin ski area. The Basin opened in 1942 and hosts multiple winter activities, primarily alpine skiing and snowboarding, as well as cross-country skiing and snow tubing.

Boise is a diverse city offering a great deal to its citizens and tourists. With four distinct seasons, Boise is a city for everyone and is considered both urban and outdoorsy - the best of both worlds.
